It's shocking how time flies so quickly pass us; the summer term is at its end and so is this academic year. We went through a lot this year: Britain had its election with the conservative party finally gaining the majority in the house of commons and sealing the Brexit deal for good; the devastating COVID-19 pandemic put the world to a halt and made us suffer another global recession, and SpaceX had finally launched a manned rocket to the International Space Station on American soil making it the first private enterprise to do so, and also the first crewed flight launched in the USA in 9 years, et cetera, et cetera. But also for me, Year 10 was more intense others and I journeyed a long way, although things are a bit more domestic and personal.

September 2019, a new start into Y10. The GCSE count down is officially beginning, and due to the fact that the End of Year Exam I did the Summer before was disappointing, to say the least, I came back more eager and with higher goals to push myself to the limit. This, however, like many plans didn't exactly go well at the start; although, with much revision and understanding, my first biology test was quite brutal. The topic was an especially hard one in the syllabus and though I achieved higher than the class average, the score on itself wasn't pleasing at all to the eye. But I didn't give up then, I continued to work hard and a much better and more promising result was achieved in later tests in all subjects. But unfortunately, right at the end of the term, I got extremely ill; I can't taste nor smell anything and my high fever lasted for five days straight, it was like living hell.

After the recovery from my illness, I came back to school refreshed and energetic. Although we have heard news and reports of the new coronavirus in Wuhan, we took it very light-heartedly as the symptoms of this new virus were flu-like and weaker than SARS, but little did we know, this virus would affect the entire globe. School went on, as usual, I achieved my first 'best junior delegate" award in a MUN conference at BISMUN and my house debating team had swiftly moved on to the second round of house debating. But as we went on, so did the coronavirus: Italy went into a state of emergency, and the rest of Europe was falling as well. Finally, the school shut its doors for the first time since the funding in 1532 due to a pandemic and all pupils, except the students who's parents works in the health department were dismissed.

Now, at the end of the Summer term, I must say that at some moment during the lockdown life seemed so boring and continuous than ever before; days all merged together into a big block of time with the only division of the days being the sleeping at night. But, time didn't fail to disappoint, and all of a sudden, the term has ended.

Looking back at this academic year, a lot had been achieved, but compare to all of the important things one do in their lifetime, this is just a minute fraction. But it's these little things are the things that make our lives so enjoyable and interesting, and I look forward to Year Eleven with optimism.
